Uhhhh is this a skill issue

I got sonic x shadow generations and I had played sonic generations before and it was the only game I've played in the series before but I was excited cuz I always thought shadow was the cooler character anyway but I played through shadow generstions and I thought it was absolutely amazing half the time I didint have much issues and I was absolutely boosting through these stages (as you should it's a sonic game) then I decided to replay sonic generations and honestly I acc just suck at this game idk if it's the controls or what but I've had a funner and easier experience on shadow generstions then I did on sonic half the time I couldnt boost because I'd boost myself into the void so i had to stop and go slowly and do platforming which is kinda annoying. Is this just a skill issue. Is sonic generations just way harder than shadow generations is the only answer to why I suck at sonic generations so much compared to shadow generstions is that I'm just bad?
