NEED SOME ADVICE ON WHETHER I SHOULD PURSUE UST

Hi.

I am a STEM student during SHS and applied for many colleges/universities before the school year ended. All in all, I narrowed it down to these two options: AB History at University of Santo Tomas and BS Civil Engineering at Polytechnic University of the Philippines Santa Mesa. (Didn't pass in UP and DLSU is too expensive)

I have chosen the AB History course as my alternative program since I did pretty well in writing essays, debates, and always read history as a hobby. On the other hand, PUP is one of the most well-known universities when it comes to engineering.

As of now, I am leaning towards studying at PUP because of the Free Tuition Fee and Higher Chances of Employment. I have formed this idea that finding a job with an AB History degree may not be easy and will certainly take a considerable amount of time.

My parents have told me na "kaya naman" pero seeing that we do not have a steady income, being a burden to them is not what I wanted. They have actually let me decide on where I should study which made it even harder.

I also feel the pressure of needing to perform well kasi "history lang yan" and not doing so will feel like wasting their money unlike PUP where there is no pressure as it is free and have nothing to lose.

I really need your help with answering these questions:

  1. Is an AB History degree worth it? What are the job opportunities available? (From your experience?)
  2. Being a STEM student and seeing that most of my hypothetical classmates are HUMSS students (Seen on GC), will I still be on par with them?
  3. UST has a reputation of having a heavy workload. Why should I choose it instead of doing it for free in PUP?

I have the utmost respect to both universities and would like to know which one should I choose.
