Switching audio device in game on PC

I have never been able to switch audio device (say USB headphones > HDMI speakers) during a game session on any CreationEngine game (Skyrim, Fallout 4, Fallout 76).

Always exit to desktop, switch audio then launch the game again.

Anyone managed to find a hack or workaround for 76 ?
