anybody else got influenced by 'Kids' (1995) in their youth?

Was randomly chatting to my ex the other day, and was surprised to find that she too was majorly affected by watching that film as a child, and chose to emulate the lifestyle. Obviously, neither of us are r*pists, but I guess it has more that more to do with that particular strain of reckless abandon and self-destruction the film captures.

She ended up getting addicted to heroin for a couple of years as a teenagaer, as did many of my friends, some of whom also went to jail for violent assault (not gang-related), with a few of them dying. But for all of us, at least as kids, we saw the film as some kind of revelation, along with maybe 'Skins', which I guess may have its counterpart in 'Euphoria' for gen-z. We're both millennials, if that makes a difference, and both live in Europe, so this isn't just an American thing.

Rewatching it last year however, for the first time since I was maybe 19, I was struck about how sociopathic/psychotic everyone was, and wondered how we could have ever chosen to emulate such people. The final scene was incredibly sad, and actually made me want to throw up - not figuratively. And then I began to question the ethics of its filmmaking, but that's maybe another discussion...
